FEARS of open conflict in the Gulf surged after US B-52 Stratofortress bombers flew across the region in an apparent warning to Iranian.
The aircraft, which can carry nuclear or conventional bombs, have a range of 8,000 miles. Iranian foreign minister hit back at the move warning the US “we don’t shy from crushing aggressors”.
According to local media the B-52s were seen flying over gulf airspace at the weekend. They can carry up to 32,000kg worth of bombs, which can include nuclear weapons. The aircraft were conducting a “presence patrol” aimed at illustrating American power in the region.
